“We see digital antenna advertised for $27. We get only basic cable at $33/mo in our 2nd home which is in a city. Could we receive the same channels or at least local ones with the digital antenna ? They claim it will get many. All should one then.”

It depends on the type of antenna and where it's positioned. For the best reception, I would suggest a multi-directional antenna .
