“Mounting the tv on the wall is not an option for me (renting), will i be ok with a flat surface (i think 35-36 in) and have the legs stick out about 1 1/2 off the table on either side?? are the leg flat on the bottom? or they have a cushy piece? thanks”

The legs have small cushions (about 1 1/2 - 2 mm thick) on each end. Personally I wouldn’t put it on a stand that shorter then 38 in . If u absolutely positive that nobody will accidentally bump in to the legs and nock your TV down, you can glue thin cushions on a bottom of the legs closer to the center to keep the TV stable.
