UHD and SHUD refer to the resolution of the TV- how many pixels. The QLED technology isn't about the resolution but about increasing contrast to get higher dynamic range. The brights will be brighter, the darks will be darker, etc. The highest dynamic range comes with OLEDs, but these are expensive and have limited lifetimes. QLED is claimed to be nearly as good as OLED but cheaper and with longer life. I don't know if those claims are true, but I am absolutely amazed at the dynamic range. After watching for a while, we've actually turned the contrast down to get used to the change from our old set. Sadly, none of this is easy to see at most stores watching the demos. The higher resolutions might be important when we have lots of UHD programming available, but right now there isn't much.
