Once you pair the SWA-9500S Wireless Rear Speakers to the HW-Q800B you will be able to hear surround out of them using an optical cable. But you will lose the ability to play Dolby Atmos content, as that does need to be played using an HDMI cable.

As recommended by other buyers, download the latest firmware - instructions are included in the set-up packet. Power the soundbar - do not connect to the TV or keep power off on the TV until the firmware is uploaded. Once it has completed the update, turn on the TV, go to settings, speakers, and it should recognize the soundbar. Done.
