• You actually have to hit a button to bring it down it's attached to the lid

• It can be removed but it voids the manufacture warranty, unsure if it voids Best Buy's extended warranty if you purchased it.

• yes it can be remove, and yes you can also lift it up to put wash in either way is not a problem.
