Hi oven, Thank you for reaching out and we hope you are in good health. We appreciate your interest in Samsung home appliances, specifically with Samsung - 5.9 cu. ft. Flex Duo™ Freestanding Electric Range - Stainless steel. The range can operate without a hood or an over-the-range microwave. It is however, a good idea to have ventilation when cooking, so having a hood or an over-the-range microwave is not a bad idea either. Your reference number: 1144348580 Leo

No you don't need one but I installed a new Stain less steel exhaust fan hood with a light to match the range
