The top is smooth black glass that shows everything so it requires a cleaner for sure. We got the Weiman spray cleaner which works great but you force yourself to clean it after each use if you want it to look nice.

Please try again later.It is a smooth top (unless you inadvertently use a cast iron skillet and scratch it—yes, we did it :() and it shows EVERY little piece of dust and animal hair that might be floating around in the air. This doesn't bother me, but it REALLY bothers my husband.

Had a glass top GE Profile range for 15 years, but since getting this new Samsung range, I find the top is EXTREMELY hard to clean and keep spotless! It is a smooth black glass, which I thought I would like, but it shows EVERYTHING! Have to scrub the surface after EVERY use w/ceramic cleaner. Even if you spill something on a cold unit, it still leaves a spot! Also scratches VERY easily! Really regret not getting the GE Profile that does have a slight coating on the top. Think twice before you buy this stove. It scratched after 2 weeks!
