If you have both HD and standard cable for 3 months, then flip between the two stations during the same show and look at the differences for yourself. Yes, there is a difference. I, however, am too cheap to pay for the difference. Also, HD will gobble up your DVR memory much faster than standard definition. I am addressing standard vs HD. I suggest doing some research on HD vs 4K. It has been a little while sense I checked, but last I looked, very little was available or broadcasted in 4K.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Since you're cable free, it would be in your best interest to just buy a smart tv and enjoy the HD quality that comes from it. You wouldn't be able to get the full quality of the 4K resolution because you don't have the programming for it (which would come from cable/satellite TV). Plus, the cost difference alone is a deterrent from buying a 4K, curved, or even a SUHD TV.
