muxtech, the leg width on the 50TU8000 is 39.8". This will be a tight fit on a 40" surface; however, the 39.8" is measured from the furthest angled distance of the legs. ^Gina
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The space between the outer points of the angled legs of the stand is 40 inches. The width of the TV screen is 44 inches. This is based on the measurement of my TV. I would recommend a larger space for the TV, width and depth, to allow for any movement; like cleaning, attaching more cables, accidentally hitting the cabinet, earthquakes.
