“Do we have the option to disable/enable the AVA? I am wondering if people in the room start talking or laughing over the TV, then the TV gets louder, then the people start getting louder to talk over the TV..and it becomes and endless cycle of volume.”

Yes. In Settings go to Intelligent Mode and turn OFF Active Voice Amplifier. You may also want to turn off Adaptive Volume.
