“I will be placing the tv above a fireplace. My plan had been to plug in the tv with the existing outlet above the fireplace, but will the connectbox require me to cut out a hole in the wall behind the tv, so that the box doesn't show or sit on the mantle?”

I would say yes. Also the outlet will need to be recessed if its behind the tv, bc the mount is truely flush. I turned my outlet box sideways so the power cord could plug in and not stick out from wall, then have my connect box behind wall as well. Dont know ur set up, but the wire that goes from tv to connect box is really long and about the width of a iphone cable. so u may be able to hide the connect box wire with some 1/4 round or trim and keep the box somewhere else? (The power cord comes from the connect box and not the TV.)
