“Is there a menu option to by-pass internal speakers (audio out switch)? The ability to by-pass the internal speakers and route the audio to an external home theater sound system is crucial to my choice of a TV. Does this 55 inch Samsung LED model have that menu option feature?”

• Yes. Multiple options on how audio is sent. Analog Dolby digital audio return etc. They are counting on that you will turn off speakers and use a home audio reciever

• Yes you can choose to have a home theater system or use the tv speakers.

• It passes audio through the optical out but it's limited to 2.0 sound, will not pass a 5.1 signal from TV.
