“Power on from the remote auto turns on my Spectrum cable box but power off will not turn it off. However, if cable box is on then when the tv turns on the cable turns off. Is there a way to auto turn off the cable box using the remote power button ?”

It’s possible that you don’t have the cable box and TV power synchronized. Try manually turning the catv box off while the TV is off, then try the remote to turn both on and off, together.
