The speakers are located in the bottom. One on the left and one on the right. We have this TV in our bedroom where I’m not necessarily worried about the volume or sound quality. For a large space such as a living room or family room, I would always recommend a minimum of a sound bar for any flat screen. Since the end goal of flat screen TV manufacturers seems to be make them as thin as possible, it doesn’t allow for a cavity or space for good quality sound. Most sound bars have a remote wireless subwoofer that makes TV/movie viewing more enjoyable and theater like (if you’re into the “experience” of watching TV as I am).
