You will need to setup you Comcast remote using the universal remote codes @ https://www.xfinity.com/support/remotes/. If you call Comcast support they should also be able to walk you through the process. I run a receiver and don't have the sound issues you mentioned with your sound bar. For sound I just selected the ‘Receiver(HDMI) option under the ‘sound->sound output’ configuration menu. I setup my receiver to use ARC and everything works great. However you can mute the source by pressing straight down on the volume button @ the bottom of the remote on the left hand side. Moving the volume button, forward or back or pushing down again will unmute the TV.
