The remote uses radio frequency rather than IR so they should be keyed to the TV independently the first time you turn them on. RF remotes do not have to be pointed at the screen and the ones that come with this TV are solar so they should be left out in normal light to charge. I actually own two of these myself and the remotes are not interchangeable.
