Grates have rubber feet that fit in little indents. They actually don't contact the stainless steel. Burners easily disassemble for cleaning. Stainless cook top cleans relatively easy with some stainless cleaner and a paper towel or soft cloth. No abrasives! Stubborn or baked on stains can be cleaned by soaking a paper towel with water or cleaner and leaving on the area to be cleaned. Once the stain is rehydrated, it cleans right up.
