50 cycles per second for power in Europe is common. America employs 60 Hz power. Check the power specifications for this unit to see if it operates on both. I didn't check the spec's on mine, but it wasn't a question I had. I have it connected to 120 Vac at 60 hertz and works for me.

No, this only runs on 110V AC.
