A:Answer Yes , you need to download the xfinity app to use it without the cable box . This model does not come with xfinity app preloaded despite it being UHD. I could not find out the year of the model either .
From my experience , the downloading is straight forward but setting it up , is not easy. You have to sign in with your xfinity account and I had to try multiple times before we were successful. This is very frustrating . Eventually it worked . However, each time it is switched off you have to reconnect to your network as it does not seem to auto connect. Dont know if this problem is unique to me .
