“The picture is so light and bright, especially the white screens that it hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. I tried putting my tv in "movie mode" but it wasn't the way I wanted to reduce the glaring "whiteness" to the screen. Help?”

You are looking for an isolated brightness setting... it's in the picture settings. The modes mostly try to compensate the spectrum of color space.
