“looking into the Samsung Q-8 from my research it gets high marks and gamers seem to recommend this TV but it is a 2018 model now I see the Sony X950G which is around the same price as the Samsung Q-8 and the Sony is a newer model any difference in the 2?”

Minor differences are pretty much it for the 2018 to 2019 comparisons between (and especially for the higher end TV’s) this time around. The Samsung TV’s are reliable and have a great life expectancy. I have had Samsung TV’s in my home for many years without a single failure in any of them. Ranging from their Plasma TV’s to this one, and several more.
