You do need to connect to the water line. We just bought a splitter so that we could connect the washer and dryer to the same water line. You don’t need a separate water line.

The dryer does not have a drain but it to use the steam setting you will need to connect it to the cold water line of your washer. They have a Y connection that connects to the cold water line then splits to hook up the washer and dryer to it.

Does not need to be connect to the drain. 
Can use the cold water for the washer. Put a “Y” split on the cold water supply for the washer and attach separate hoses to the washer and dryer.
