“Is the Smart Remote an Infrared type remote? Can an off the shelf universal remote be used to control this TV? I am looking to purchase this TV for my elderly parents but the remote that comes with this TV would be incomprehensible to them.”

They can get a basic remote but all it would be able to do is turn the volume up and down turn the TV off and change channels. It is indie. Great tv. Love it so far.
