Yes, apps (such as Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max...) will run smoothly without the need to hook another piece of hardware to the monitor (notebook, roku box, amazon fire stick...), the monitor has embeded speakers (reasonably good) and WiFi. It is compatible with Apple TV hardware (there are two HDMI ports for that) or you can simply install the Apple TV app.

Mine gets the HDMI out from the cable box in our bedroom. I also get Disney+, Hulu, Prime video, YouTube and other internet providers as well. The Monitor's simple controller lets you quickly and easily switch between wireless services as well as the cable box. It does not have a HDTV tuner. You use the cable remote control to switch channels, change volume, and turn both the monitor and cable box off. We like it. My daughter likes it as well.
