“Play new 4K UHD movies Will this player work with the newly released 4k UHD movies that were released in March 2016? I have tried to play The Martian released in 4K UHD, but it will not play on this player. Is an update needed or do I have to purchase the new UHD players?”

This player will not play UHD 4k Blu-Ray discs. The new K8500 does that. This player will upscale non-4k Blu-Ray/DVD to 4k in the same way a 4k TV will upscale non-4k material, but the player will not handle the new UHD 4k discs.

I also watched a UHD movie with this unit; it was struggling; adjusted to HD and it worked fine. You're correct this unit seems to have an issue with UHD.

No...this is a great HD player with upconversion, but it is not an actual 4K player (UHD).

It is suppost to be able to play UHD discs. I have not purchased any yet to try it on this player.
