“Will this unit become obsolete in 3 yrs and not play blu rays like my previous player. No way to update software in player to accommodate change in blu ray format”

Since this player get's updated directly through WiFi, it is up to Samsung to send updates. We can only hope.

Most probably something will make all DVDs of all formats obsolete in 3 years. 10 years from now the kids will be saying "Daddy... what is a DVD?", much like they now say "what is a floppy disk?". It is unlikely there will ever be another format change though, as we are near end of life for all DVD's.
