“Will other 3D glasses as long as they are active{ I assume that means battery powered } work with this unit? I am replacing an older 3D Panasonic.”

Your TV brand will determine the type of glasses required. LG passive. Samsung active. Always ask your sales person. If they don't know go to the Magnolia section. They usually are more knowledgeable.
