• Yes it can. The internal mechanism can be rotated to rout the exhaust externally to the rear or upward; or inward for recycling.

• yes it can , however , I had to return mine due to shipping damage

• The fan pulls in air from below the unit and pushes that out through the top. The exit on the top is about 1.5 x 25 inches. It certainly isn't built for an external vent.
