Good day. This is an excellent question! To help promote better health, the water filter removes unwanted particles from your water, however, it does not sterilize or destroy microorganisms. You may need to purchase a water purification system to do that. Our water filters are NSF*-certified to remove many contaminants. Herbicides, pesticides, lead, mercury, asbestos, and even pharmaceuticals like ibuprofen, carbamazepine, and a whole lot of other hard-to-pronounce chemicals are all filtered out by Samsung.
