I don't use UVerse but in all situations there is a modem, router and maybe wifi. Modem is what connects to your ISP router is what helps with DHCP, routing, etc... Wifi is to broadcast the signal. So, you will probably still need the AT&T modem (as with most ISPs) and may be able to disable the router functionality to allow the Connect router functions work.
