• It's touch based. In the app, you can customize the "Touch and Hold" gesture to Volume Up and Down. The right ear is Volume Up, left ear is Volume Down.

• Yes, there are touchpads on the side of the left earbud and the right earbud, on a Samsung phone when the earbuds are paired you can change the touch controls to fit your needs.
