I just spoke with a Best Buy employee in Southern CA and asked that question since I wondered also. She told me that there is no additional charge after 24 mos as the phone is free with a new account, but you have to pay the full sales tax on the suggested retail price (so less than $15 in most states). And of course, the account charges from verizon for whatever plan you choose.
