Yes you can keep your old phone number if you like, since its a unlocked phone you can use it with almost any service you like and you do not have to activate it immediately. I had my galaxy note 10 plus unlocked for about 1-2 weeks before i activated it. Unlock just means basically that you can use it with any provider just about.

I simply took the SIM from my BLU phone and put it into my Note 10+ and was able to use it immediately. Like, before I even pulled out of the parking lot immediate. Hope this helped a little, its a great phone and Best Buy has it the cheapest.
