• All are different. 4G LTE will typically have 4G LTE and 3G. 4G (WiMax) was a technology Sprint tried and gave up on before LTE won. Sometimes they are used inter-changably and then typically are referring to the most modern 4G LTE.

• A 4G LTE phone should work on 3G and 4G. You just need to make sure that, if you buy a 4G LTE phone, it is compatible with your carrier's service, otherwise you won't need it.
