As far as I can tell, holding the button on the stylus acts like a "remote control" that makes the phone take a photo. From what I can tell, the stylus is not taking the photo. However, I turned off _lots_ of camera settings that annoyed me by trying to alter my photos instead of letting me do what I need to do for clients of my small business. I have only had this phone about a month, and I am seriously thinking about returning it. Samsung has made S Note all but completely useless for my business. I used to be able to take before & after pix and later put them together on a single page in S Note and add a caption so clients could see the results. I used to use S Note to rearrange furniture in a room by using the grid background to show clients what I wanted to do without having to actually move their furniture until they approved the plan. I used to sketch right on a photo of their room ways to imrove organization. I can't do that now except in a far limited version with photo editor. In the old S Note app, I could draw sketches in multiple colors of objects in a space and could cut and paste the sketches right on to a photo of the space or on the grid background. I used to be able to paste a photo into the old S Note app and use the erase function to remove all but one item in a photo. I could then save the edited photo on another page in the same S Note and then cut snd past the trimmed image on another one. The old S Note app was a super functional app that I used almost daily and loved using. The new vetsion of the S Note spp is little more than a sticky note. The new version of the S Note app no longer lets me create multi-page notes integrating photos, text, and sketches that I can email to clients as a .pdf. I have been a loyal Note fan from the very 1st one, and I have so far found not one thing that makes ne glad I bought the Note 9. _All_ I can do w the new version of the S Note app is scribble on the screen on a single page sticky note that I can't even figure out how to rename now! Also, every auto update has completely re-set all my personalized app settings. Three times I have had to re-customize my home screen! In about 1 month, I have literally screamed in frustration at this machine. The Bixby app is downright insidious: recording my voice and taking pictures without my consent and sharing my info with services I do not now and will not ever use--like facebook and Uber. I even wenrt in and un-checked the privacy settings at least 3 different times only to find that updates had changed my dis-agree in the privacy setting back to agreeing to sharing my data with Uber and facebook! It is all but impossible to disable the most invasive features of this phone bc if U do, the updates un-do Ur settings. This phone tries to connect to the Samsung TV and Samsung answering machine that belong to other people in the house in which I live. I pretty much hate the invasiveness of the "Smart" app that makes all my callers sound like they are under water when someone else's Samsung TV in the house is on. I cannot figure out how to disable the stupid "smart" thing that is disrupting my calls severely bc someone else here owns a Samsung TV! I am beyond frustrated with this phone, and I have been a _huge_ Note fan prior to getting Note 9 about 1 month ago. I cannot comprehend why Samsung chose to severely curtail the awesome functionality of the S Note app that mde their Note phones so awesome; Note 9 should not even bear the Note appelation: It is far inferior to my old Note 5!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It sounds like you got a lemon phone or you got a black market phone without realizing it. Go to youtube and search for how to tell if your phone is a fake or a knock off. Supposedly this should not happen at department stores but with employees stealing these days you never know if something was replaced with an inferior product. I don't believe anyone else has had these issues with that phone so something is peculiar. Good luck. Maybe you can trade it in and get some cash for a note you like better and maybe a cheaper one to save money.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. When you open the default camera app, you just press the button on the Stylus to activate the shutter. I have not tested this with other camera apps yet, but the one that comes preinstalled does work.
