“I have T-Mobile now, so if I purchase the S20+ do I retain my T-Mobile account and just upgrade the plan to 5G? And is sprint/T-Mobile using the same 5G network? Thank you.”

It's all the same company and yes you keep your current plan unless you wish to change it.
