This is false 
The phone is able to switch over to 2G 3G 4G and 5G the phone carries a lot of radio bands and different frequency ready to pick up anything even on the emergency broadcast here's the spec list of what the phone radio bands carry and support that's already ready to go in the phone

The unlocked version certainly has the ability to switch from 5G to 4G, and even down to 3G and 2G. Some carrier locked versions are indeed locked into 5G without the option to switch.
