I just got the Note 5 on contract for $49.99. I paid $13.98 in taxes. Our tax rate is 9%. The taxes are not high enough to be for the full retail price, but are too high for the $49.99. So I'm not sure what price they used to calculate the tax for the contract. But we had bought the S6 on the monthly payment and we did pay taxes on the full retail price for those.

No. Since you're only paying $1, the tax is charged on that $1. I bought my S5 the same way.
