Best Buy sells the unlocked version but for deep discounts you have to get a carrier version. I went with Verizon, the entire discount came off at purchase and I paid for 90% of the phone up front. on my first payment I can pay the remainder and phone is mine outright. My last two phones were unlocked, but the discount was too significant not to go branded this time. we'll see how it goes when I opt to switch carriers
