This means that after 12 consecutive payments (1 year), you are eligible to upgrade to the latest device - if you so choose. If you take advantage of this, then you are required to either return the device to Sprint (a prepaid return kit will be sent to you), or to purchase the device. From 12-18 months, you have the option to upgrade or continue your lease. After the 18 month point, your options are slightly different. Your lease agreement is over, and you can either return the device to Sprint (you can purchase a new device, or even cancel at this point), or purchase the device. If you purchase the device, you will have the outstanding balance, which can be paid in one lump sum, or over a period of six months. This is the "Flex Lease" (I manage several long-time Sprint accounts, and have dealt with contracts, purchase and lease plans for over 20 years)
