“If I "upgrade" to another phone IN "my Verizon", they'll change me to a new limited data plan for "upgrading". My question is- if I buy this new S9 unlocked phone, is this considered to be an "Upgrade" too, where I'll lose my current plan w/Verizon?”

You have to ask a Verizon Rep. I have At&t and I have an unlimited data plan. Buying this phone did not affect my data plan. I still have the same features I went from a S5 to a S9. I will say the unlocked phone at bestbuy was cheaper than getting through att.
