I have done that, and it was way cheaper to buy it unlocked and keep my current plan with T-Mobile. Also, as my Credit Card is 0% interest and offers full insurance for my phone, I just paid the whole thing with it and now I can choose how much I want to pay every month on that card. Great deal for me and my wife

In my case, the only reason to buy an unlocked cell phone is that I can use the SIM card from any carrier.

That's what I did. I purchased the unlocked, and activated it on my ATT account. Works perfectly.
