The tablet is google based. You will need a gmail email account and you can get apps through the Google play store...there are tons of free apps (unlike apple products where most apps you have to pay for?

Google's Play Store. There is an icon for it on the screen.
You also can sideload apps. Download APK, set your tab to allow applications from unknown sources, run downloaded APK.

Icon "store"tap on it either type the app your looking for or view what is offered. It will be free or a charge for it. When you make a choice tap on it then it will display install tap on it and when done you can open it. The app will post itself on the desktop.

You can download apps on the Samsung - Galaxy Tab 4 directly from the Google Play Store which comes pre-installed on the tablet.
