I use this machine daily and I am an engineer. I have the gold edition with 8 gigs of RAM and the 2356 gig SSD. I have seen videos and reviews of the 4 gigs of RAM and 128 gig SSD version having issues running multiple programs at once, performing heavy data analysis and photo editing. The gold edition runs your graphics programs pretty well. I have used AutoCAD and few other programs on it without any issues other than some very minor lag. This machine will handle your research and data analysis with ease; however, it will lag some if you're doing heavy photo editing in programs like Adobe Photoshop.
