• The band is a plastic composite. I was worried about this as well but have had no problems at all. I haven't worn it during the summer months yet, so I may have to revise my answer. It is much more comfortable than I thought. That said, the band is permanent.

• Yes it is made of plastic material. I only wear it when i'm working out...but you can change out the bands.
