Depending on the carrier you have this watch can act as it's own mobile device. If you'd like to turn your phone off and run to the store while only wearing the watch you are certainly able to do so. Not sure who your carrier is but for AT&T when you purchase the Gear S2 Classic you will activate the watch as if you were adding a line. This includes picking a new number for the watch so you are able to receive calls on that number or via AT&T's own call forwarding service NumberSync. There are terms and conditions to this program, the details can be provided to you. I believe Sprint and T-Mobile have a service similar to AT&T but I'm not sure about Verizon.
