The post above by Luisecas is incorrect. The descriptions reversed. Waterproof is sealed and supposed to keep water out up to whatever depth is specified. Water Resistant is designed to keep the water out for short period of times and probably under no water pressure.

According to the experts the difference: Waterproof watches cannot take Any pressure but they're sealed enough to survive a shower. Water Resistant Watches are sealed to witstand some pressure.
