Honestly, I don't know. BUT, I only purchase refurbished items from BestBuy and I've only had a problem with 1 of them. Actually, it was the watch we purchased for our dad for Christmas. The watch, like this, arrived dirty, so I assumed that if it was dirty, then the geek squad had obviously not done anything else to clean/check the functionality of the watch. They immediately replaced it and he's loving it! I've personally had mine for a couple of years and I had a previous version for several years prior to that. So, yes, I think that they do check out the items. As far as the battery... My battery life is usually 2 days, and my dad says that his watch lasts that long or longer. Of course, how much you have running on the watch will affect how much battery life you have as well.
