• Hi Lee! The HW-S50A can be placed on a mantel in front or below the TV providing optimal sound quality. You do not need to wall mount this model for optimal sound. ^Tim

• No it doesn't need to be mounted you will still get superb sound if it's on a mantel or some type of stand. I have mine right under my TV and if it wasn't for the color I wouldn't even notice it.
