“Monitor settings set to 144hz but monitor info says it is 60hz. When i restart the monitor it tells me its running at 1080p 60hz and to set to 144hz. Im using the HDMI 2.0 cord that came with it and plugged into my gpu hdmi port. Is this one a dud?”

No you need to go into the settings of the pc and go to display settings scroll towards the bottom and you should have the option to change from the default 60hz to 144hz. Hope this helps.
